SHER - :Could Be Dangerous (The Reunion):

In my excitement for Sherlock Series 3 that premiered in the UK on January 1st, I wanted to do my own reunion pic! Uploading here on dA the night before the premiere here in Canada and the US. Actually this is one I have been working on for a good 3 months and had been trying to get it done before Christmas! I tried to come up with an original idea for this and drew a blank ('cause honestly, every scenario has been drawn and played out somewhere). A few months ago, I came across a SetLock pic for Series 3 of Sherlock (that I later found out was a fake and a well done photo manip... but I don't care!!) that is still one of my favourites because I forever love the epic bromance of this show In the manip, to me it looked like John had a cell phone in his hand and I kinda ran with the idea that John had received a very familiar text, and in the end it led to a ghost from his past. So I added the text as well on there to further my temporary headcanon.

Now before y'all go apeshit on me, I know Sherlock usually signs all his texts "SH", but there actually WAS an exception to this in show-canon prior to S3: in Hounds of Baskerville, in the scene after John goes to check out the 'Morse code', Sherlock knows John is pissed at him about the 'I don't have friends' remark, so he tries reaching out again by being informal and just signing an 'S'. To me that one little 10 seconds snippet says so much about how much Sherlock really does care and therefore I also have a headcanon that Sherlock uses informal texting to appease John when he knows he's going to be upset about something. I dunno. I love these two so much.

Now, about the pic. UGH.This took a BITCH-LONG-TIME to finish. It's been SO long since I've used pencils, but I really wanted to try them on my Illustration paper. LOVED IT, but UGH, doing metal fencing takes far longer than one anticipates. The long and short of it is that I did this pic mainly for myself more than anything. I don't usually do backgrounds on anything, much less in this fun mixed media format, so yeah, an experiment and something nice done on super nice paper that I could frame. I'm not super happy with the end result (both Sherlock and John's faces look weird to me, and what is with John's ginormo hand?), but I do like that I was able to give my Sherlock expressing more emotion than the original ref pic, so... yay!
