Fanart Friday for March 28, 2014 and LET'S DRAW SHERLOCK! MARCH CHALLENGE: VIDEO GAMES [ TUMBLR POST ]

UGH! I spent an entire MONTH on this project! When I saw that LDS!'s March challenge was to draw video game-themed pics, I HAD TO ABSOLUTELY do a crossover pic with my all time favourite video game franchise, Kingdom Hearts, particularly Dream Drop Distance (aka 3DS), since it is the most recent game I have completed (and the soundtrack is SO beautiful!) and it has a beautiful story and ending.

Whenever I draw something KH-related that's not actually IN KH, I truly enjoy actually designing the characters as if they have their own world within the KH universe. So, here's Sherlock and John drawn in KH-styled garb fighting Shadow Heartless with their Dream Eaters: John, in Sora's role, with a Meow Wow and Sherlock, in Riku's role, with a Necho Cat (seemed appropriate, LOL). And, while I was at it, I designed a couple keyblades for each of them too. Heh. And yes, I decided I wanted John to hold his Keyblade underhanded, like Ventus does... for some reason I find it pretty awesome. And John's left-handed, so I NEEDED to make him even awesomer. Lefties automatically are awesome in my books (shout out to my sister sib!).

I'm rather quite proud of this one... my first time sitting down and doing some digital painting. Took FAR too long to do the digital parts of this pic, mainly 'cause I started to get WAY to picky about how it looked. There are actually a lot of hidden layers on this pic, because I was getting carried away, and then I was like, "Dammit, I only need to draw a blob with eyes for Heartless, not each individual one...". And I KNOW Dream Eaters are the opponents in 3DS, but I didn't want to take away from the main part of the drawing, so I chose Shadows instead.

AND I KNOW, technically in the reality of the game these two cannot be in the same frame, but... CHARACTER DESIGNS. I NEEDED TO DRAW THEM BOTH. I'm sad that Sherlock's details got hidden by all of the foreground stuff. I spent a long time deciding how I wanted his shoes and coat to look and then in the end, you can't even see them completely... which is part of the reason I did the additional pics with closeups of the details and such. So much of my hard work got hidden by more hard work, LOL. And JOHN. I drew him spiky-haired. HEEE HEE. And hows that, turning his jumper into AWESOME COSTUME, LOL.

I was actually deciding between Birth by Sleep and KH2, when finally I chose 3DS... because I wanted to draw the Dream Eater Symbol on Sherlock's back. Yup. That's it. But the more I think about it, Sherlock fits perfectly into Riku's role in the game... Riku is smart, loyal and quick and will do anything for Sora; and with Sora kind of being the heart of the series as a whole, John seemed to fit into his role rather nicely. Hee.

If you're curious, KH2 is my fave game, followed by BbS and then 3DS :)

Hope y'all like it :) I may have to do BbS in the future, because.... ARMOUR. A lot of the reason I didn't draw BbS was because I didn't think I would have time to design armour for them. And I know I could have just put them into the characters' costumes... but what's the fun in that?? :D I'm a designer, I need to create :D :)

Cheers all!
